That’s especially true when your big party involves millions of flashing Christmas lights, a lighted holiday parade, extra-large greeting cards and lots of music.

The Concho Christmas Celebration Committee has been working for weeks to make this season celebration along the Concho River as memorable as past seasons.

Committee members are from a cross-section of the city including the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, the City of San Angelo, churches, non-profit organizations and local media outlets.

SEO or PPC: Which One is Right for You?

There are two major search engine marketing strategies in use today: SEO (search engine optimization) and PPC (pay-per-click). These two methods are very different, and deciding which one is right for you can be hard. Which one do you think will do more for your website? Well, that all depends on what your website’s like.

One leading contributor to the difficulty in deciding which is correct for your site is that you don’t really understand why you can’t just use both. There is no real reason that you cannot implement both methods when marketing your site, in fact, I encourage this behavior as PPC can be integrated quite nicely into an SEO plan.

PPC is a good way to get users to become more familiar with your site. Once they are used to seeing your site, they will probably begin to stick around if they encounter it in a search engine. The more often that your site is visited the more that search engines will like it. This is one reason that it is so crucial to attempt to get as many quality hits as possible.

Card contract ‘will save 200 Welsh post offices’

HUNDREDS of post offices across Wales were handed a lifeline yesterday when the Government decided to allow the network to continue to provide the Post Office Card Account (Poca).

Postmasters last night estimated that about 200 of Wales 800 branches could be saved by the decision.

The accounts are used by an estimated 4.3 million pensioners across the UK who use the cards to pick up benefits. They drive vital business through small rural branches.

Work and Pensions Secretary James Purnell yesterday announced the Post Office would continue to run the account until 2015 and scrapped a tender process in which it had faced competition from a rival firm.

Mr Purnell said it would be wrong to risk the future of post office branches at a time Britain faced recession.

SEO ‘Tools of the Trade’

Before you start optimizing your site for search engines, there are some tools that you should arm yourself with. These tools can become your best friends when it comes to SEO, especially when you’re just starting out. The first and most important step in any search engine position campaign is recognizing which keywords you should optimize your site for, and there are several pieces of software that are useful for this, including Wordtracker, Optilink, Zeus, and Agent Web Ranking.

WordTracker’s keyword research service is the only one on the Internet that provides a comprehensive database of the most popular keywords in a particular industry. It can help you recognize associated keywords that you may have never thought of. One of the differences between WordTracker and other tools is that it can spot subtle differences, for example singular and plural keywords, or often-misspelled ones, and tell you which versions are more popular.

Search Engine With Roots in Genomics Unlocks Deep Web

A research-focused search engine founded by Human Genome Project scientists is claiming to go where even Google doesn’t tread: the deep web.

DeepDyve is designed to search the 99 percent (they say, citing a study from UC Berkeley) of hits not picked up by other search engines, which return pages based largely on interpretations of popularity and work only if a page is findable. Content hidden behind paywalls or that is not linked to enough sites to gain page rank remains obscure, but often contains the source material required for serious research.

It’s the classic "needle in a haystack" problem: you know it is there, you know you can get to it, but … how? DeepDyve attempts to bridge this gap with techniques used in genomics to identify DNA strands like pattern and symbol matching.

The company’s technology uses an algorithm called “KeyPhrases” which indexes passages up to 20 words in length — not just single key words. Since the technology was conceptualized to identify long, complex strings of DNA, there was no need for semantics, just character recognition to sequence the human genome.

Search Engine Optimization Myths

For as long as SEO has been in existence, there have been all sorts of myths about it, and the situation isn’t helped by the number of so-called ‘experts’ spreading them. Here’s a list of the biggest SEO myths:

You can’t optimize perfectly for every site
There are 10,000 search engines out there
PageRank is dead
Your should repeat your keywords 100 times on each page
Search engines don’t have time to ban you for bad SEO
You should submit your site to every search engine going
You don’t need content to get ranked high
Meta tags are very important
All you need is more links
SEO doesn’t require patience
New sites can’t get listed in search engines
You should have multiple domain names
It’s good to resubmit every week or every month

If you find companies that tell you any of these things, then you should run away as fast as you can. Don’t pay attention to the myths of SEO – the only techniques you should be using are ones that are proven to increase your website’s ranking.

How To Design a Powerful Postcard Marketing

Marketing with postcards is a great way to promote a business.  If you’re a newly established business, it is an effective way to let people know that you’ve just opened.  Meanwhile, if you’re launching a new product or offering a new service, postcards can be great tools to announce it.

Postcards can also double as discount coupons or claiming stubs for bonuses or a freebies.  Because of its versatility, many entrepreneurs prefer postcard marketing over other forms of direct mail marketing

Nevertheless, how can you get the most out of marketing with postcards?  How can you design a powerful postcard that will surely generate positive response from your prospects?  Consider the following tips on how to market with postcards more effectively:

Use quality image.  Designing your marketing postcards with poor quality images will not attract people’s attention.  A poorly designed postcard would be easily be discarded by a recipient.  True, using high quality print images can cost you more but the results you’ll achieve will also be worth the money you spent.   Since the image is a key element in your postcard design, see to it that you use only the best quality photos.

Avail of quality printing.  If you’re going to send postcards in large bulk, it’s better to hire a professional printing service.  This way, you can get to choose the quality of materials you’ll get.  Glossy and colorful postcards easily grab people’s attention.  People also tend to keep beautifully-designed postcards for a longer time.

Send the right size postcards.  Most postcards come in a standard 4”x6” size.  But if you want to stand out, you may also use postcards at a larger size.  Nevertheless, smaller postcards are a lot handier and costs cheaper via First Class Mail.  Choosing the right size of your postcard would depend on your purpose.

Use captivating headlines.  Headlines are crucial with any type of advertising copy.  Since they are the first words that the recipients would see, choosing attention-grabbing words is the key to attract people’s interest.  Poor headlines may not bring out the best results.

Use concise messages.  One of the best things about advertising with postcards is that they don’t take too much of the recipient’s time.  Since you can only put in short messages in a postcard, you need to make sure that the message speaks exactly what you want to speak.  For instance, if you want them to check out your website, drop by your store or try a new product, make sure that your message conveys what you want your customers to do.  Use lines that are catchy and easy to remember.

Don’t try to advertise all your products.  Remember not to flood your marketing postcards with too many things all at once.  Trying to sell all your products in just one postcard would be a waste of time.  Instead, focus on one thing for each postcard you send.

Include your contact details.  Some business owners forget this basic rule.  Your recipients should know all the possible means of contacting you.  When advertising with postcards, don’t forget to include your business address, phone number, e-mail address, your website address and other contact details.
