The Challenge of Making Money From the Internet

Search the internet and you’ll find thousands of money-making opportunities that may instantly attract you.  Yes, these are legitimate opportunities and anyone who is determined to make it online, really has great potential to succeed.
But why do some internet marketers fail with their online business?  What are the obstacles they faced that you can expect to meet as well?  In this article, let’s discuss some of the challenges of starting a homebased business as well as some practical advice on how to get over them.

Insufficient skills.  The lack of skills particularly when it comes to the technical aspects of internet marketing is often a major set-back for many.  Before you venture into a home-based internet business, ask yourself, “Do I have the technical skills needed to run an online business?”

For instance, do you have a basic knowledge of computers and the internet?  Do you really understand what internet marketing is all about?  Do you know how to set up or maintain a website?  If not, then it is recommended to get the necessary training before even starting to take on this type of business.

Poor product.  If you’re going to start a home-based business, one of the first questions you should think about is, “what do I sell?”  Not having an effective product or a service to offer will definitely hinder your success.  Before starting a business, make sure that you have something to offer your target market, otherwise, you won’t be making it in the industry.

Not enough budget.  Another challenge that every new online marketer must face is the financial challenge.  Sadly, many aspiring marketers immediately jumped into the business without considering their budget.  Many have the false notion that they will be able to get back the money they invested right away.

But the truth is, most businesses need to wait a few months before they start enjoying profits.  Aside from the start-up capital, you need to make sure that you have enough funds to support you and your family while your business tries to establish its footing.  The principle applies to an internet business.

Lack of patience.  Again, challenges can be expected and if the entrepreneur doesn’t have the patience or the drive to face up to these challenges, the business will surely fail.  In some cases, an aspiring internet seller gets into a business that he’s not really interested in.

For example, you may not be interested in making scrapbooks but since it’s in demand in the market, you’ve decided to start an online scrapbooking business.  Unfortunately, because you were not genuinely interested in that type of business, you lose the drive after just a couple of months of opening the business.

Thus, if you want to start a business, it is recommended to choose one that is related  to your passion.  This way, even if you encounter some difficulties along the way, you won’t lose the drive to continue until you reach success.

How to Increase Customer Response through Direct Mail Postcards

Today, more and more online sellers recognize the efficacy of direct mail marketing with the use of postcards.  For these online marketers, advertising with postcards is not only easy and cost effective, it also generates positive response.  If you haven’t tried it yet, you could be missing on a great opportunity.  This article presents tips on how you can make the most benefit from postcard advertising:

Use a strong headline.  Grab your recipient’s attention by using a strong and catchy headline.  You may need to spend time to come up with an effective headline but it would be worth it.  Remember, you only have a few seconds to capture your recipient’s interest.  A lousy headline just won’t do.

Use call-to-action words.  What do you want your recipient to do?  You need to be specific about this.  Would you want them to visit your website? Come to your shop? Or try your new product?  Examples of call-to-action words are “Buy Now!”, “Visit Us Today”, “Pick up the phone and order now!” and more.  These words may be simple but they incite action and tell the reader exactly what to do.

Stress the benefits.  The success of postcard marketing depends on how you convey your message.  A short, precise message is best when sending out postcards.  However, don’t forget to stress the benefits or the advantages to your recipients.  What’s in it for them?

Choose your image carefully.  Postcards only have limited space so you want to make the most of the space you have.  A cute or pretty image is not enough.  Make sure that it is applicable to your message.  The image you’ll use should support the idea you want to convey.  It should be eye-catching, interesting and relevant.

Focus on just one idea.  Postcards are best used to convey one specific idea.  Therefore, don’t try to promote all the products and services you offer in one postcard.  Don’t include all the benefits you can think of.  Focus only on the most important idea.  If you have other ideas, print them on a different postcard.

Send to the right people.  Your postcards wouldn’t mean so much if they fall in the wrong hands.  For example, if you’re selling children’s books, it wouldn’t make a big impact if most of your recipients happen to be yuppies, bachelors or career women with no kids.  This is why having the right mailing list is important.  If you don’t have one, purchase only from a reputable mailing list broker.  Better yet, use your own customer listing or build an opt-in list from your business website.

Resend your postcards.  Don’t expect to get a response right after your first mailing. Usually, marketers need to repeat the campaign at least three or four times to the same audience before getting the response expected.  Keep track of the results before taking the next step.  If your tactic seems to ineffective, see if there’s a way you can improve your postcard marketing campaign.

SEO Scams and How to Avoid Them

Uneducated customers usually expect unrealistic results when it comes to SEO. This is mostly caused by some so-called optimizers who promise things that just aren’t possible. When it comes to SEO, you should always do your research before you hand over any money. This applies to every aspect of your business as do most SEO related techniques. It is always important to keep in mind that your SEO work is no more or less than another business expense. You should never fork over money until you have done your research and ensured that you will be provided with a quality product.

Basically, there are only a few choices when it comes to getting search engine traffic. You can use pay per click ads, or submit your site to the search engines and hope you get a good ranking. Instead of hiring some overpriced company who know nothing about optimizing your site, you should keep control of your site and save money by doing the SEO yourself. Another great resource is to find a site that you would like to post your ads and pay them for a static link.

These links are very powerful because they will increase your google page rank since they are permanent. They are dually useful because you know where the traffic is coming from and you know that you are getting traffic from a site that is related to your own.
